A man has died after sustaining a gunshot wound to his upper leg last night on Jacksonville's Eastside. The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office (JSO) reported that officers responded to the 1200 block of Florida Avenue around 9:20 p.m. upon receiving a notification of a shooting.

Upon arrival, authorities found the man with a gunshot wound. Initial first aid was provided by the officers until paramedics arrived, however, the man ultimately succumbed to his injuries at the hospital, as News4Jax reported. JSO has not revealed the identity of the deceased and, the circumstances leading to the shooting remain uncertain.

Investigations into the shooting are currently underway. JSO Sgt. Highfill confirmed that the incident took place in the 1200 block of Florida Avenue, but details surrounding the fatal event are still being pieced together. According to First Coast News, only one gunshot wound was reported.

JSO is urging anyone with information to come forward and assist in the inquiry into the man's death. "At this time, the circumstances that led to the victim’s death are unknown," the Jacksonville police stated in a news release, which was shared by Action News Jax.
