The City of Marietta will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Friday next week, at 10:00 AM to mark the completion of the final phase of the Fairground Streetscape Project. The event will take place at the intersection of Fairground Street and Haley Street, according to the City of Marietta's official website.
The project, spanning nearly 20 years, was funded through special purpose local option sales tax (SPLOST) programs approved in 1995, 2005, and 2011. Phase 4, funded with $4.5 million from the 2011 SPLOST, focused on improving pedestrian safety and infrastructure. Upgrades include new sidewalks, crosswalks, landscaped medians, stormwater drainage systems, retaining walls, streetlights, and traffic signals.
The project was completed ahead of schedule and under budget. It was designed to improve pedestrian and traffic flow along Fairground Street and to support safer street crossings throughout Marietta.
City Council members, city staff, and residents are expected to attend the ribbon-cutting. The public is invited to join the event at Fairground Street and Haley Street.
