The Massachusetts Department of Public Health is raising the alarm over several cases of botulism connected to 'Botox' cosmetic procedures at a Milton beauty spa. A notification posted on the department's website details an ongoing investigation involving 10 suspected cases of botulism following injections at Rodrigo Beauty, located at 464 Granite Ave.
Considering the serious nature of iatrogenic botulism, a consequence of botulinum toxin misadventure, the DPH is urging those who visited Rodrigo Beauty for Botox treatments between May 1 and last Wednesday, to immediately get in touch with health authorities. The department's official contact number is 617-983-6800, also, those affected can reach out to their local board of health as per the DPH announcement. This advisory remains crucial even for individuals who have yet to show symptoms of the toxin's spread, as reported by the Government of Massachusetts.
Symptoms to watch for include blurred or double vision, drooping eyelids, slurred speech, difficulty swallowing, and breathing difficulties. The DPH advises immediate emergency room visits for anyone showing these signs post-Botox injection. Prompt recognition and treatment, according to the health officials, are key to improving patient outcomes.
In light of these events, the DPH reiterates the importance of undergoing cosmetic procedures with licensed professionals in accredited medical facilities. This public health incident casts a stark reminder of the risks involved when procedures like these are performed outside of such regulated environments, and individuals are urged to remain vigilant regarding where, and by whom their treatments are administered.
