In response to the disarray following federal actions in Downtown Los Angeles, Mayor Karen Bass has stepped up with a new initiative aimed at helping local businesses navigate through the tumult. According to her office's recent announcement, virtual support sessions are on offer, guiding a slew of issues from accessing financial aid to cleaning up vandalism.
Mayor Bass didn't mince words in her critique of the federal moves, citing them as policy-less acts that have sown nothing but chaos in the city, "For a week now, our city has been dealing with the fallout driven by reckless raids of Home Depot parking lots and the activation of federalized troops," she said. Councilmember Ysabel Jurado echoed this sentiment. She emphasized the critical role of Downtown businesses in the community and expressed her office's commitment to providing them with robust support in these trying times.
The announced webinars are part of the city's strategy to offer support to businesses affected by recent events, including assistance with state and federal funding, legal services, employment, and restoration of facilities. The schedule for these webinars has been set, with sessions planned for the following dates: June 13, June 16, and June 18, all starting at 1:00 PM. Addressing the violence and vandalism that broke out, Bass has imposed a curfew spanning from 8:00 PM to 6:00 AM, in the hopes of curbing such activities and protecting the community. Furthermore, to fortify the peacekeeping efforts, she noted that "hundreds of officers from police and sheriffs departments from across the region and state are working alongside LAPD through a unified command structure," aiming to maintain order on the streets of Downtown L.A.
