The National Weather Service in Memphis has released its latest weather forecast, pointing towards a week that will demand residents keep an umbrella at the ready. According to the latest data from the NWS, today Memphians can expect mostly sunny skies with high temperatures cresting near the 91-degree mark, while winds will remain largely tame, shifting northeast at around 5 mph later in the afternoon.
As night falls, the forecast brings in partly cloudy skies and mild conditions, with lows hovering around 70 degrees. The east southeast wind should persist through the night, maintaining a gentle pace. However, the city’s calm weather is set for a turn, as Thursday promises a mix of sun and cloud cover, accompanied by a 40 percent chance of showers and potential thunderstorms after 1pm.
In a statement obtained by the NWS, residents are to brace for Friday and beyond when the likelihood of showers and thunderstorms sharply escalates. There's a 70% chance for storms on Friday, primarily post 1pm, with a high near 87 degrees. That same probability holds true for Saturday, while new rainfall could amount between a tenth and quarter of an inch, save for potential higher quantities during storms.
Continuing into the weekend, the atmospheric pattern becomes slightly less predictable. Saturday night's forecast calls for a 30 percent chance of showers and storms before 1am, followed by a mere chance of showers and a low around 73 degrees. Come Sunday, thunderstorms are again likely, particularly after 1pm, with highs expected to push into the low 90s. As the new week dawns, stormy conditions show little sign of abatement, Monday and Tuesday each hold a 60 and 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, respectively.
