Memphis police are currently investigating a string of shoplifting incidents that swept through various stores across the city, resulting in thousands of dollars in merchandise stolen. Notably, last Tuesday, a suspect targeted the Save-A-Lot store on 3465 Austin Peay, absconding with steaks, fruit, and charcoal valued at around $250, according to a social media post from the Memphis Police Department. After the suspect filled a shopping cart with the items, they promptly exited the store without any attempt to pay, leaving the premises in a gray four-door sedan.
Similarly, on the same day, the Dollar General on 3609 James Road fell victim to two suspects who pilfered several cases of Coca-Cola products, totaling an estimated $537 in stolen goods. Not long after, Marshall's on 3001 Covington Pike and Cash America Pawn on 3337 Overton Crossing reported thefts involving clothing items, beauty products, and a PlayStation 5 – the latter valued close to $449. The suspects from these episodes used diverse tactics, from concealing items in luggage to abrupt dashes, to evade paying.
Additionally, last Wednesday, two individuals lifted batteries from Advance Auto Parts on 2631 Frayser Boulevard. The culprits' effortless shoplifting added approximately $1,000 to the tally of stolen goods. Moreover, on June 14, a theft at Cash Saver on 1620 Madison Avenue involved a purloined cell phone, which was later used to transfer $850 to a Cash App account. This incident adds a layer of complexity involving digital theft to the more straightforward shoplifting at other establishments.
Memphis Police are requesting anyone with information regarding any of these incidents to come forward and contact the respective General Bureau of Investigation divisions, as noted in their appeals.
