Last Friday, Michigan State Police K-9 Thor was exposed to a suspected poison while assisting with a break-in investigation. Thor and his handler were helping Lapeer County sheriff's deputies search a barn when the incident happened, according to WNEM.
Thor was quickly taken to the Michigan State University Veterinary Medical Clinic for emergency care after his condition was discovered. In December, he was exposed to drugs while searching a home in Flint, as reported by ABC12. This is not the first time he has encountered harmful substances, which are a known risk in his role as a canine officer.
Last Saturday, state police reported that K-9 officer Thor was recovering. In a statement on X, they said, “We are happy to report that Thor is doing well,” and “He’s receiving wonderful care from the staff at MSU Veterinary Clinic,” as mentioned by Mlive. On Monday, Thor was reunited with his handler and remained under care at the clinic.
