An 18-year-old Milford High School student was detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) over the weekend in an off-campus incident, according to Milford Public Schools officials. As reported by WCVB, Superintendent Kevin McIntyre confirmed the detention and noted recent ICE activity involving other local families, stating the district is concerned by the situation.
According to NBC Boston, the student was reportedly on his way to volleyball practice when he was pulled over and detained by ICE agents. Two other minors in the vehicle were released. The student is known for participating in sports and music at the school. His coach, Andrew Mainini, described him as a positive presence in the community.
Superintendent McIntyre told NBC Boston that the district remains committed to supporting its students and families, describing them as important members of the school and local community.
Milford Police Chief Robert Tusino said his department was aware of the detention but was not involved in the operation. He stated the department is reviewing the matter.
A peaceful protest is scheduled for noon today at Milford Town Hall in response to the detention. The event coincides with the Milford High School graduation ceremony. ICE has not yet commented on the incident.
