In a turn of events high on drama but low on morality, a Milwaukee man has been accused of threatening President Donald Trump and ICE agents under the guise of an undocumented immigrant. Fifty-two-year-old Demetric Scott, who was already facing charges for armed robbery, has now been charged with additional felonies: Identity theft, Intimidation of a Witness, and two counts of Bail Jumping. According to FOX6 News, officials received letters on May 21, penned to incriminate one Ramon Morales-Reyes, a witness set to testify against Scott.
Acting as a character in his own fabricated narrative, Scott intended for Morales-Reyes, who had recently applied for a U visa, to be seen as the antagonist in this drama. As identified by Milwaukee County prosecutors, the real story depicted Scott as the one attempting to derail the legal process by having Morales-Reyes deported. In a scenario seemingly lifted from the script of a legal thriller, Morales-Reyes had identified Scott as his assailant in a prior armed robbery incident. WISN reports Scott’s trial for this case is scheduled for the subsequent month.
Morales-Reyes's arrest had initially been announced with certainty by Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, stirring the always simmering pot of immigration debate. Yet, this declaration quickly faltered upon closer examination. With the case's details unspooling, ABC News notes discrepancies in the handwriting samples between the accused and the letters, as well as Morales-Reyes' limited English proficiency, signaling his unlikely involvement.
As the smoke clears, the victim's narrative reemerges. Kime Abduli, Morales-Reyes's attorney, who filed his U visa application, expressed relief as her client’s name began to be cleared. In these unfolding events, one wrongly accused man now sees the potential to return to his family and continue his life as a dishwasher in Milwaukee. His deportation defense lawyer, Cain Oulahan, has turned his efforts toward securing Morales-Reyes's release and seeking justice beyond the wrongful accusation. Meanwhile, Scott sits in Milwaukee County Jail, his phone calls detailed in the criminal complaint betraying his guilty plot to the scrutinizing ears of law enforcement.
