Celebrations for the 4th of July in District 11 are set to be doubly festive this year with not just one, but two parades to grace the holiday on Independence Day. Local residents are gearing up for a day of patriotic merrymaking, as confirmed by the Alderman of the region, who is keen on seeing the community come together for the occasion. The day's events will kick off with the Alcott Park Parade, which is scheduled to start at 9:45 a.m. from 3575 S. 88th St. and will conclude at Alcott Park with a spread of daytime activities that promises to entertain attendees well into the evening.
The Alcott Park festivities will include a cannon salute, a talent contest, and an array of games. Vendor booths will be lined up to serve food and much more, ensuring there's something for every family member to enjoy. As day transitions to night, eyes will turn towards the sky for a fireworks display, capping off the festive atmosphere at the park. Meanwhile, a second parade organized by Live Laugh Loaves MKE and various neighborhood associations will start at 1 p.m., making its way from Manitoba Park and wrapping up at Lyon's Park. According to information acquired from the City of Milwaukee's official release, Lyon's Park will host an afternoon replete with activities, food, and entertainment until 5 p.m.
According to the City of Milwaukee, "District 11 is home to many vibrant and engaged neighborhoods, and I’m delighted that through community efforts, the district will be hosting two parades and community celebrations this year," Alderman Peter Burgelis said in a statement. Acknowledging the dual events, he added, "In addition to these events, fireworks will also be held at Jackson Park in the evening. I hope residents come out to celebrate the upcoming holiday at one or both parades."
