Street lighting improvements are scheduled to begin on July 1 in Milwaukee’s District 5. Alderman Lamont Westmoreland announced the project, which will focus on upgrading lighting infrastructure in the area, according to the City of Milwaukee.
As part of a $1.1 million project, street lighting circuits will be upgraded with energy-efficient LED fixtures. Work will begin with conduit boring and pull box installation. During this phase, traffic and parking may be affected. Temporary "No Parking" signs will be posted on weekdays from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. to allow space for construction equipment, as reported by the City of Milwaukee.
Street lighting upgrades are planned for Kops Park and Golden Valley as part of a city project to switch all street lights to LED by 2026. A map of the affected areas is available on the city’s website. “The forthcoming improvements in street lighting are much needed and will represent an improvement to quality of life for those in the impacted area,” said Alderman Westmoreland. The project is ongoing in District 5, and residents can report street light outages through an online portal, as mentioned by the City of Milwaukee.
