This Saturday, residents in Milwaukee's Garden District have an opportunity to dig into sustainability with a series of composting workshops. The community event, organized by Keep Greater Milwaukee Beautiful and the Department of Public Works, is set to take place under the Garden District Community Garden Gazebo, precisely at 6th and Norwich, just shy of Howard's bustle.

A statement from Alderman Scott Spiker encourages folks of all experience levels to participate: “Whether you are new to home composting or need a refresher, these workshops are designed to teach all ages what composting is, why it’s important, and how to compost in your backyard,” as mentioned in the City of Milwaukee website. It's a hands-on affair starting at 11 a.m., with subsequent sessions at noon, and 1 p.m., comprising presentations, experiential learning, and that ever-valuable Q&A time.

The day isn't just about transforming kitchen scraps into garden gold—there's more in store. The Garden District Neighborhood Association is simultaneously hosting a plant sale featuring a myriad of vegetables and flowers eager for new homes. It's a verdant opportunity for those looking to enhance their gardens or start afresh with curated selections of flora.

And for city dwellers who made the environmentally savvy choice to purchase a compost bin during the annual city compost bin sale, Saturday also serves a practical purpose. Their bins can be claimed at the Milwaukee DPW Sanitation Building, 4031 S. 6th St, their new stewards able to collect them any time from the early bird hour of 9:00 a.m. to the leisurely wrap-up at 4:00 p.m.
