The retail landscape in Monaca, Pennsylvania, is set to shift this fall with the closure of the JCPenney store located in the Beaver Valley Mall. This is the lone store closure announced by the company within the region.

A spokesperson for JCPenney detailed that the decision came as the retailer was unable "to continue its current lease terms" and unable to secure "another suitable location in the market," as reported by WPXI. With the planned shuttering of the store, JCPenney encourages its customers to visit the nearly 650 other stores nationwide, as well as their online storefront.

Amid news of the store's closure, the mall's administration has already begun advertising a store closing sale, attempting to draw in shoppers with price reductions starting at 20 percent off. The specific end date for the JCPenney at the Beaver Valley Mall has been set for September 17. As residents prepare to say farewell to a longstanding retail establishment, State Rep. Josh Kail expressed concerns about the mall's future. In a conversation on the Big K Morning Show, Kail lamented the mall's transition into what he perceives could become a "ghost town," despite its prime location, which is strategically situated 15 minutes from the airport, near Pittsburgh, and en route to Cleveland and Ohio, according to Audacy.
