A second Chick-fil-A is about to land in Butler County, and construction crews are putting the finishing touches on the new restaurant along Holden Drive in Adams Township near Route 228. The location is nearly finished as of early September and is expected to open sometime this fall, though no exact date has been set.
Construction Wraps Up Near Route 228
The Adams Township store began construction in June 2026 after the township's Board of Supervisors approved the project, according to the Butler Eagle. It will be only the second Chick-fil-A in Butler County, joining the existing restaurant along Route 228 in Cranberry Township, which as of September 2026 remains the county's lone location. A Chick-fil-A spokesperson said the company cannot yet confirm an opening date but looks forward to serving the community, per the same report.
Once open, the new restaurant is recruiting for 100 full-time and part-time positions, a sizable hiring push for a single fast-food location. The Adams Township site sits inside the Adams Corners commercial development near Three Degree Road, positioned along Route 228 alongside a Sheetz convenience store, a McDonald's, and a planned Chipotle, according to The 228 Times. That outlet notes the development uses internal service roads off Holden Drive and Robert Williams Drive to keep drive-thru traffic off the main highway.
Approval Came With Detailed Site Requirements
Adams Township officials granted final approval for the 5,500-square-foot restaurant in July 2025, following planning commission review that spring, according to a separate Butler Eagle report on the project. That plan calls for a 24-seat indoor dining area alongside dual drive-thru ordering lanes with overhead canopies, a layout designed to move high volumes of cars efficiently. The same report notes that Chick-fil-A operates on an owner-operator franchise model, meaning the local business owner running the Adams Township store typically manages just one or two locations as their sole venture, rather than a larger corporate footprint.
Butler County's Chick-fil-A, at 1700 Route 228 in Cranberry Township, first received land development approval back in January 2003 for a 4,541-square-foot drive-thru facility. It remains the county's only location as of September 2026.
A Third Location Already Approved in Butler Township
The Adams Township opening isn't the end of Chick-fil-A's local growth. In November 2025, the Butler Township Board of Commissioners approved plans for a third Butler County location at 660 Butler Crossing along New Castle Road, on a vacant parcel in front of Kohl's and across from Sheetz. That approved site plan, detailed by ButlerRadio.com, features two permanent, detached metal drive-thru canopies — a 55-by-26-foot canopy for food ordering and a larger 32-by-60-foot canopy for outdoor meal delivery, a dual-canopy design that required a special zoning exception from the municipal zoning board.
The rapid buildout tracks with what's happening on the roads around these new restaurants. PennDOT District 10 has been running a multi-phase, multi-hundred-million-dollar safety and widening initiative along Route 228, expanding the highway to five lanes and adding roundabouts, jughandles, and service roads to keep pace with development in Adams and Middlesex townships, according to WPXI. As of June 2026, county officials and federal lawmakers were still seeking roughly $61 million in federal grant funding to finish the final 3.2-mile unwidened stretch between Route 8 and Route 19, per The 228 Times.
Growth Fueled by a Booming Suburb
The commercial rush along Route 228 is part of the area's broader suburban-growth story. New restaurants and other projects are adding to the area's commercial activity.
For now, Adams Township residents will have to wait for an official opening date, but with construction nearly complete and the hiring push for 100 positions already underway, the wait shouldn't stretch much beyond this fall.
