Cardell Glover, 24, of New Orleans, was sentenced last Tuesday, to eight years in federal prison for unlawful possession of a firearm as a felon, possession of a stolen firearm, and possession of a machine gun. The sentences will run at the same time. He will also have three years of supervised release and must pay a $300 special assessment fee, as reported by the U.S. Attorney's Office.
According to the U.S. Attorney's Office, the incident happened on July 9, 2024. A rideshare driver, who also works as a security guard, reported her firearm stolen to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office. She had placed the gun in her car's trunk before starting her shift and later found it missing after giving a ride to Cardell Glover and another passenger.
As part of the Project Safe Neighborhoods program, Glover pleaded guilty to stealing a Glock pistol and illegally converting it into a machine gun. The case was handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Sarah Dawkins of the Violent Crime Unit. Simpson recognized "the work of the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Department" in the investigation, as stated by the U.S. Attorney's Office.
