A local artist known as Subway Doodle creates digital artwork by adding imaginative creatures to subway photos, capturing aspects of New York’s commute. These works are currently on display at the Banksy Museum. Using the subway as a backdrop, the artist’s work focuses on the daily experiences of city residents, as detailed in a recent PIX11 report.
The exhibition has occupied the museum’s performance space since May 30. As per information from Eventbrite, admission to this exhibition is free, while a separate ticket is required to access the rest of the Banksy Museum’s collections. The exhibition was curated after a curator identified Subway Doodle’s work and chose to include it in the museum’s collection.
"I started drawing on the subway commuting everyday and I challenged myself to draw something during the commute," the artist shared in an interview. According to a statement obtained by PIX11, Subway Doodle selects from a collection of around one hundred photos for each digital piece, incorporating whimsical creatures as a reflection of his emotional state during daily life in the city.
While initially gaining recognition on Instagram in 2014, Subway Doodle has since broadened his work to include murals throughout the city’s landscape. This exhibition marks his first solo show, highlighting the large, cartoon-like blue figures that have become a central element of his art. The exhibition will run through August 24 at the Banksy Museum, which houses the world’s largest collection of replica Banksy artwork and features a variety of street art displays.
