In a significant operation against human trafficking, nine victims were rescued, and six individuals were arrested in West Memphis, Arkansas, as detailed by Action News 5. The joint effort, dubbed Operation DELTA (Defending Every Life Trafficked in Arkansas), was spearheaded by the Arkansas State Police and encompassed participation from local law enforcement agencies. Executed on May 29, the operation identified 38 victims and allowed nine immediate access to medical care and advocacy support services, as stated in the Action News 5 report.
According to FOX13 Memphis, one child, who was removed from conditions described as "exploitative, vulnerable, and unstable," was among those rescued. The operation, also involving the Arkansas Human Trafficking Council and several other law enforcement agencies, found that some of the nine victims were minors, all of whom were taken into protective custody.
The arrestees face charges ranging from promoting prostitution to being felons in possession of firearms. As described by WREG, one suspect tried to escape the scene but was apprehended by Arkansas agents following a Tactical Vehicle Intervention. The identities of those arrested during the operation have not been released, keeping the focus on the victims and the collaborative rescue efforts.
"This operation highlights the Human Trafficking Council's strategy of targeting traffickers and exploiters while prioritizing the safety and recovery of victims," Sergeant Matt Foster, Arkansas Human Trafficking Coordinator, told FOX13 Memphis. The Arkansas State Police has since rolled out a new webpage, launched in January 2025, aiming to aid human trafficking victims further by providing reporting tools and a resource map.
