Residents in the Butler Beach area were startled by the sight of heavy flames on Saturday morning as firefighters tackled a blaze that emanated from a car in the carport of a home in the 5000 block of Pelican Way. First Coast News reported that despite the fire's swift spread to the rest of the home, all inhabitants, including a father and his dog, evacuated safely—though St. Johns County Fire Rescue indicated in their post that no victims were located.
In the a neighboring community of Crescent Beach, firefighters faced a similar challenge as a garage fire extended into the home it was attached to, according to Action News Jax. Upon arrival, they were met with intense flames but managed to suppress the main fire quickly. An ensuing search ensured that the residence was empty and no injuries ensued.
With fire incidents seeming to converge around Pelican Way, the St. Johns County Fire Rescue worked diligently to maintain control and prevent further damage or injury. News4Jax also covered the story, detailing how firefighters discovered a heavy fire showing from the garage/carport area with an extension into the home. This fire, too, resulted in no injuries, and the cause remains under investigation by the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
While these back-to-back fires have fortuitously not resulted in any physical harm to the residents of Pelican Way, the extent of property damage has yet to be fully assessed.
