Last Saturday, Novato officers arrested a 54-year-old resident, Tammy Manzanilla, on suspicion of driving under the influence. The incident occurred around 8:43 AM, near South Novato Blvd and Sunset Pkwy, after police were tipped off about a potentially intoxicated driver near Redwood Blvd and Delong Ave, according to a social media post by the Novato Police Department.
Upon contacting the driver, Manzanilla, officers noted signs of impairment and proceeded to administer field sobriety tests, which she failed. In the process of searching her car, the officers found suspected methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. Driving with a suspended license due to a prior DUI, Manzanilla was booked into the Marin County Jail, facing multiple charges including DUI and possession of a controlled substance.
The Novato Police Department took this opportunity to underscore the perils of impaired driving, stating, "This incident serves an important reminder, that there is more than one way to be under the influence." They went on to advise the public never to mix driving with the use of drugs or alcohol and always to have a plan for getting home safely. They also encouraged citizens to report impaired drivers to law enforcement immediately.
Impaired driving continues to be a significant concern, with repeat offenders like Manzanilla highlighting the ongoing challenge communities face in keeping the roads safe. "Never drink/use drugs and drive. Be responsible, have a plan, and drive safe," the Novato Police Department reminded.
