The digital age is relentless, and the Oak Creek Public Library is offering a lifeline to those looking to keep up. According to the City of Oak Creek announcement, a series of free computer classes is set to help residents from July through December.
Beginning with 'Basic Computer Skills' every Thursday in July from 6:00-8:30 p.m., attendees can acquire fundamental computer literacy, such as using a mouse, opening and closing windows, and basic email operation. As technology becomes increasingly integral to daily life, such skills are invaluable for those who may feel left behind in our rapidly evolving digital world.
For those already comfortable with the basics, 'Computer Skills 2.0' in August will delve deeper, covering desktop customization, file explorer, and internet safety - critical topics in an era where online security is paramount. Moving into September, the focus shifts to 'Office for Beginners' for those interested in Microsoft Office skills, covering applications like Word and Excel each Thursday from 6:00-8:30 p.m.
The learning continues in October with 'Intermediate Microsoft Office,' targeted at those with a foundational proficiency in the software suite, keen on refining their expertise with more sophisticated features like tables in Word and charts in Excel. The standalone 'Advanced Excel: PivotTables' class on Thursday, November 13, will cap off the Microsoft Office series by teaching attendees how to utilize this powerful analytical tool.
Lastly, the library offers a chance to bridge the gap between past and present with the 'Convert Your Memories – Analog to Digital' class on Thursday, December 11. This session aims to preserve cherished memories by teaching participants conversion techniques for old cassettes, VHS tapes, and film negatives into digital formats. The class also includes guidance on recording equipment and digital storage options provided by the library for checkout.
These sessions represent a commitment by the Oak Creek Public Library to facilitate digital literacy within the community, a service likely to empower many in navigating and harnessing the benefits of modern technology.
