As Oakland seeks to solidify its standing as a hub for international travel, Oakland International Airport (OAK) has launched a digital advertising campaign named "La Bahía". This initiative, unfolding in partnership with Visit Oakland and Visit Berkeley, zeroes in on bolstering brand recognition and fueling journey demands from its prime international market: Mexico. Featuring co-branded advertisements, the effort aims to catch the eyes of potential travelers in Guadalajara, Monterrey, and Mexico City through strategic social media and programmatic ad placements.

According to a release by the Oakland Airport, La Bahía is part of a broader strategy to present OAK as an accessible and convenient portal for those venturing to Northern California from Mexico. The campaign is poised to gain momentum thanks to routes recently added by Volaris and Viva. These developments, as OAK's release notes, simplify and enhance the connectivity between the regions. Port of Oakland Director of Aviation Craig Simon was quoted saying, “We’re proud to join forces with our longtime partners at Visit Oakland and Visit Berkeley on this exciting activation in support of our new and existing Mexico service.”

The campaign coincides with OAK's expansion of nonstop services to seven destinations in Mexico starting this July. Airlines such as Volaris will cover Leon/Guanajuato, Guadalajara, Mexico City, Morelia, Los Cabos, and Zacatecas, while Viva will extend operations to Guadalajara and Monterrey.
