An Ocean View woman faces multiple charges, including attempted murder, following a traffic collision involving her boyfriend, a 24-year-old man who was substantially injured in the incident, which occurred last Tuesday evening. Hawai‘i Island police have identified the suspect as 22-year-old Alaina Kainoa-Aukai. The collision took place near Princess Kaiulani Boulevard and Lotus Blossom Lane in Hawaiian Ocean View Estates, where, upon their arrival, police made contact with Kainoa-Aukai, who appeared to be impaired at the time and quickly claimed responsibility for operating the vehicle.
Following an initial assessment, authorities determined that the injured pedestrian was Kainoa-Aukai's boyfriend. Shortly after being transported to Kona Community Hospital, a deeper investigation revealed that a domestic dispute had preceded the violent incident, which was to soon cast a harsher light on the circumstances surrounding the collision. The confrontation between Kainoa-Aukai and the officer occurred upon her arrest, when she allegedly became combative and kicked the officer multiple times before being placed into the transport vehicle.
Kainoa-Aukai was charged last Thursday post her transport to the Kona Police Station. The charges include second-degree attempted murder, second-degree assault, first-degree negligent injury, operating a vehicle under the influence of an intoxicant, and first-degree assault against a law enforcement officer. Her bail was set at an eye-watering $1,020,000. Kainoa-Aukai is expected to make her initial court appearance today, as confirmed through official statements.
Authorities have been actively seeking out eyewitnesses who might be able to further substantiate the events leading up to the tragic incident.
