As Juneteenth approaches, Oklahoma City prepares to adjust its services in commemoration of the holiday. According to the city's official announcement, residents can expect city offices to be closed on June 19, but trash, recycling, and bulky waste collection will run as usual.
The city's announcement highlighted that OKC's transit systems, including RAPID, OKC Streetcar, and buses, will offer free fares to the community. However, these services will be modified to operate on a weekend schedule. Oklahoma City's official website provides details on the limited hours of operation, with RAPID offering 30-minute frequencies and the streetcar running until midnight.
As for other facilities, expect closures across the board for municipal services. In a statement from the City of OKC, they have listed buildings such as the Household Hazardous Waste Collection Center, Animal Welfare, and Municipal Court among those that will be closed on this federal holiday. Oklahomans looking to resolve citations or legal matters are encouraged to use the court’s online option, as noted on the website: "Pay online at okc.gov."
Outdoor enthusiasts have fewer restrictions, as all outdoor parks will be open from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. The Martin Park Nature Center’s outdoor grounds will have extended hours, open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Similarly, Will Rogers Gardens will welcome visitors to its outdoor areas during the same hours.
For the upcoming Juneteenth holiday, Oklahoma City will maintain essential services and provide several public areas for leisure and reflection. EMBARK’s Transit Center Customer Service and the 235-RIDE Call Center will be closed; however, the 235-PLUS Call Center will remain available during limited hours. Further information and updates can be found on the city’s official website as the holiday approaches.
