
Early this morning, a fatal shooting involving an Oklahoma City police officer occurred while a sex crimes-related warrant was being served in southeast Oklahoma City, as confirmed by local authorities. Officers arrived at a residence near Southeast 59th Street and Bryant Avenue, where they attempted to serve the warrant.
In a statement obtained by KOCO, Master Sgt. Gary Knight revealed, "Around 6 a.m., police were serving a sex crimes-related warrant at a home near Southeast 59th Street and Bryant Avenue. Police said the suspect fled from the back of the house." The suspect, reportedly armed with a pistol, led the officers on a foot pursuit. "At some point during this foot chase, he becomes involved in an armed confrontation with one of the officers. The officer discharged his firearm, striking and killing the suspect," Knight added.
According to a report by KFOR, the unclear circumstances of the encounter led to the fatal outcome. No other injuries were reported, the suspect was pronounced dead on scene, but details regarding the events leading up to the shooting remain sparse.
Meanwhile, NewsOn6 added further context, stating that after the suspect fled, police established a perimeter and deployed drones to assist in the search. Police tell us "this escalated to shots being fired, resulting in the suspect being killed in the shooting," according to the outlet. The identity of the suspect, has not been released, and the shooting is currently under investigation.
