Hawai‘i Island authorities are currently investigating what's believed to be a drowning incident after a 59-year-old woman from Oroville, California, identified as Stacy Coon, was found unresponsive at Whittington Beach Park in Nā‘ālehu. The incident that transpired on Sunday afternoon has jolted the local community, with questions looming around the events leading up to the tragedy.
According to details provided by Hawaii Police Department reports, at around 2:40 p.m., witnesses observed Coon struggling in the ocean approximately 40 yards from shore. Shouts for help were met by swift action as several bystanders braved the waters to bring her back to land. There, she appeared to become unresponsive, prompting bystanders to administer CPR until the first responders could take over.
