Oklahoma's House of Representatives welcomed its newest member as Rep. Kevin Norwood, R-Owasso, was officially sworn into office, sealing the ranks of the House with a full complement of 101 members. Hailing from Owasso, Norwood fills a void after a special general election earlier this month to assume leadership for House District 74, which encompasses parts of Rogers and Tulsa counties. His dedication to his home state was clear when he expressed his sentiments. "Today has been an incredible day, and I’m deeply honored to represent the people of House District 74," Norwood said. "Serving my local community is a responsibility I take seriously. I truly love Oklahoma, and I’m committed to doing everything I can to make our state an even better place to live," as mentioned on the Oklahoma House of Representatives website.
Norwood isn't a stranger to community service, having spent a considerable portion of his career as a youth minister. His academic credentials include a bachelor's degree in pastoral ministry from Southwestern Christian University, a master's in applied theology from Oral Roberts University, and a doctoral degree in leadership and global perspectives obtained from Portland Seminary at George Fox University. Alongside his official responsibilities, he enjoys a family life with his wife, Ann, and their two children.
The ceremonial oath was overseen by Oklahoma Supreme Court Chief Justice Dustin Rowe who also administered the oath to other newly-elected House members, Rep. Amanda Clinton, D-Tulsa, and Rep. Aletia Timmons, D-Oklahoma City. The latest induction brings the House to its full legislative capacity, positioning the state assembly for the 2026 legislative session with a partisan split of 81 Republicans and 20 Democrats. Speaker Kyle Hilbert, R-Bristow, echoed the sense of completion felt in the House, "It is great to have our full 101 House members seated, ready to do the people's business throughout the interim and into the 2026 legislative session," he stated on the Oklahoma House of Representatives.
