Last week, a Casa Grande High School groundskeeper had a close call when a hidden illegal firework exploded while mowing the lawn. According to Petaluma Police, the blast happened around 10:00 AM last Friday when the gas-powered mower triggered the device. Fortunately, the employee was not seriously hurt.
Police and the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Bomb Squad responded quickly to investigate how the explosive ended up on school grounds. So far, the source and reason behind its placement remain unknown. Authorities are asking the public for any information.
With the Fourth of July approaching, officials remind residents that all fireworks are banned in Petaluma. The ban has been in place since June 2020 and aims to prevent wildfires, injuries, and property damage. Violators can face fines starting at $1,000, and property owners can also be held responsible for illegal firework use on their land.
