The National Weather Service in Philadelphia has provided a detailed forecast for the upcoming days, predicting a mix of scattered showers, thunderstorms, and partly sunny skies. According to the latest report updated earlier today, residents should expect isolated showers followed by scattered showers and thunderstorms after 2 p.m. with a high of 88 degrees Fahrenheit.
Heading into tonight, the forecast calls for a 60% chance of precipitation with scattered showers, thunderstorms increasing after 5 a.m., and lows around 66 degrees. East wind will blow at 5 to 10 mph, and while new rainfall might only accumulate to less than a quarter of an inch, these numbers could climb higher during thunderstorms. This erratic weather promises to continue over the weekend, with a 50% chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2 p.m. on Saturday, and a nearly identical pattern ahead on Monday.
The week presents an unsteady climate pattern for Philadelphians, where the heat index on some days nears the mid-80s, but the region is never far from rainfall and storm conditions. Friday's forecast anticipates a cloudy day with a slight breeze and a high near 73 degrees, easing from the intense heat experienced earlier. At night, the clouds persist, the east wind dims to a whisper, and the chance of precipitation dips to 30%.
Steadiness appears out of reach even as the week progresses. "A chance of showers after 2pm," reads the forecast for Sunday, with partial sunlight and a high of 84 degrees. The fickleness of this weather is echoed on Tuesday with the chance of precipitation rising to 60%, and showers, possibly punctuated by a thunderstorm, seems likely. Such unpredictability continues into Tuesday night, becoming somewhat temperate by next Wednesday with a mostly sunny outlook and a high again nearing 88 degrees.
