A Philadelphia firefighter was assaulted this morning, leading to a nearly three-hour standoff in the Tacony neighborhood. The incident ended with the suspect’s arrest, according to 6abc Action News.
The altercation began around 9:50 a.m. on the 7100 block of Jackson Street, where a man reportedly assaulted a fire lieutenant before retreating into a nearby home. Philadelphia police and SWAT responded to the scene.
Crisis negotiators worked throughout the morning, and the suspect was taken into custody at approximately 12:45 p.m. His identity and charges have not been released, as per NBC Philadelphia.
Neighbors told they were unaware of any disturbances before the arrival of emergency crews. The reason for the initial fire department response and the motive for the assault have not been disclosed. FOX 29 stated that no updates have been provided on the fire lieutenant’s condition.
The Philadelphia Police Department is continuing its investigation.
