A Plano vape store's brush with crime ended with a Nerf gun twist and a double arrest, local law enforcement reports. It all started when Plano Police Officer T. Sullivan was dispatched to a robbery at a store located in the 1400 block of Los Rios Boulevard on March 26. Sullivan arrived to learn from the victim, a store employee, that two masked males, one feigning to be armed, carried out the threat and heist, lifting an estimated $2,500–$3,000 worth of goods.
Digging through the store’s customer database, Officer Sullivan was onto something—possible suspect phone numbers and a lead on a tipsy suspect living nearby. Just as he gathered the dots, poised to join them, a call about an intoxicated individual hit the airwaves. Described similarly to one of the suspects, and hovering in the same location where the nastiness had unfolded, the suspect was detained, rounded up for public intoxication, and subsequently connected to the robbery.
The Plano Texas Police Department's social media post detailed the collaborative efforts leading to the capture and arrest of the two culprits. The first, with a Nerf gun masquerading as his weapon of choice, and the other, whose identity later surfaced thanks to meticulous detective work.
That grunt work fell to Detective S. Benjamin, tasked with unmasking suspect number two. According to the social media post from the Plano Police, her sleuthing turned over interviews, sifted through video footage, and ended up with a probable shoe match. Fresh off a different bust by the Princeton PD, the second suspect and his girlfriend became the crucial link to thicken the plot.
In the end, Detective Benjamin’s persistent groundwork laid the foundation for procuring a search warrant, recovering those incriminating shoes, and securing an arrest warrant for robbery.
