
The Judicial Selection Commission of Hawaiʻi has made a call for public input on the potential reappointment of the Honorable Alvin P. K. Nishimura as District Family Judge of the First Circuit. His current term is set to end on December 9. According to the official announcement, Judge Nishimura has formally requested to continue his services for another six-year term as outlined by Section 3, Article VI of the State Constitution.
As part of the reappointment process, the Commission encourages individuals to provide written feedback or to complete a judicial evaluation form. It must be stressed, all comments and filled forms will be treated with the utmost confidentiality. To submit evaluations, interested parties can visit the Commission's website and use form JS-P-081. Feedback must be postmarked or faxed by August 19, to reach the Commission in time for their consideration.
This process is part of Hawaiʻi’s unique democratic system, aiming to foster transparency and accountability within the judiciary. Public participation is seen as an integral part of the assessment that ensures only the most qualified judges, who can uphold the integrity and commitments of the judiciary system, are retained.
