Eim Khao Mun Kai, a Thai restaurant based in Elmhurst, Queens, is preparing to open a second location in Manhattan’s East Village. The new site, located at 129 Second Avenue, was previously occupied by the ramen restaurant Misoya, which closed in April. Established in 2014, Eim Khao Mun Kai is known for its chicken-and-rice dishes. While an official opening date has not been announced, EV Grieve reported that signage was installed last Saturday, indicating the upcoming opening of the new location. Additional locations may follow.
The original location, described by Eater as a destination for those who enjoy Hainanese-style chicken, serves poached chicken in a ginger-based broth, paired with ginger-infused rice and cucumber slices. The dish, priced around $10, is a Thai interpretation of a well-known Hainanese meal, using the chicken broth to flavor the rice. The announcement of the expansion has drawn interest from individuals in Manhattan who are looking forward to accessing the restaurant's offerings outside of Queens. Eim Khao Mun Kai also maintains an active presence on Instagram, where it shares updates and information about future openings.
While no details have been shared regarding the specific offerings at the upcoming East Village location, the original establishment's reputation suggests that Manhattanites can look forward to indulging in Eim Khao Mun Kai's celebrated khao man gai, featuring chicken poached in a flavorful broth which is deftly crafted by Chef Srivaset Sajchaacharamontri, as highlighted by Eater. This signature dish reflects elements of traditional Thai cuisine and has been a contributing factor to the restaurant’s continued success.
