A violent altercation in Raleigh has resulted in serious injuries and an arrest, as reported by local authorities. At approximately 12:30 p.m. yesterday, Raleigh Police Department officers were dispatched to an incident in the 6700 block of Magnolia Court where they discovered a person who had been stabbed; this individual was swiftly transported to a hospital with injuries deemed serious by police officials, but they are expected to recover, according to WRAL.
Witness accounts shared with CBS 17 indicate that the stabbing occurred during a confrontation that began near Lynn Road and escalated into violence involving as many as six individuals possibly residents of adjacent apartments; police apprehended 61-year-old Willie Lee Garrett shortly after the incident took place, charging him in relation to the stabbing.
Garrett, the suspect now in custody, faces multiple serious charges in connection with this latest incident as well as a prior offense, as reported by ABC11; the charges include assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, inflicting serious injury and misdemeanor larceny stemming from an incident in July 2024, painting a picture of a man who has had previous encounters with the law over similar acts of violence.
The identity of the victim has not been disclosed as the investigation continues.
