"Today’s forecast should be a warning to President Trump and Republicans in Congress: the trade wars, tariffs, federal employment cuts, and foreign conflict in the Middle East are hurting Washington families and small businesses," Ormsby stated.
Providing further context on the matter, Ormsby referred to the Economic and Revenue Forecast Council's latest findings. Warnings of inflation and a subsequent rise in costs paint an unfavorable economic trajectory, a direct critique of the path laid out by federal governance. "The Economic and Revenue Forecast Council is warning us that these factors can lead to an increase in inflation and costs. That is the wrong direction, and it is on our federal leaders to fix the mistakes they are making," he added.
Washington's financial situation, at least as seen through the eyes of the House Democrats, appears bolstered by prior planning and budgetary prudence. Ormsby highlighted the foresight that went into preparing the state's biennial operating budget. "House Democrats made thoughtful, and sometimes painful, budget decisions to pass a biennial operating budget that was balanced and provided a strong reserve fund," he explained, suggesting a level of readiness to contend with potential economic downturns.
However, confidence in state measures does not negate concern for the broader impact of federal policies. The Spokane representative emphasized a commitment to stay vigilant in the face of international and national fiscal moves. "Washington’s economy remains strong, but we will continue to monitor international conflict and the Congressional budget process in advance of next session," Ormsby assured. House Democrats, under his leadership, maintain their dedication "to protecting services and programs that ensure everyone can thrive."
