In a peculiar twist to Roseville's crime logs, the local police department disclosed on social media an operation that put an end to a spree of high-stakes, low-odor theft. Over a two-month period stretching from March to April, a duo of perpetrators, now infamously dubbed "deodorant bandits," targeted several chain stores such as Safeway and CVS across Roseville, with pilfered toiletries amounting to a stench-free sum of $15,000, as reported by the City of Roseville Police Department.
The crimes, detailed in a Facebook post by the City of Roseville Police Department, involved not only the shoplifters but also a third suspect. This individual was accused of greasing the wheels of their illicit marketplace, turning body-fresheners into cold hard cash, by buying the stolen goods and reselling them at Bay Area flea markets – a scam not likely featured in typical how-to-save guides.
Christened 'Operation Pit-Stain', the multi-agency collaboration including Santa Clara PD, Placer County DA Investigators, and the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation Crisis Response Unit, resulted in the apprehension of both the purloining pair and the entrepreneurial suspect. Their arrest led to the recovery of an array of toiletries valued at approximately $50,000, returning a truck-load of bathroom essentials back onto store shelves and presumably, into actual market circulation, as stated by the City of Roseville Police Department.
