As an oppressive heat wave approaches Greater Cincinnati, trash collection service Rumpke is making adjustments to its schedule to protect its workers from the severe temperatures forecasted. In an effort to prevent service interruption, residents are being instructed to place their trash and recycling out on the curb the night before their scheduled pickup. "Our crews are adjusting start times to help drivers finish collection before the highest temperatures of the day are reached. With this change, it is important that trash and recycling be placed curbside the night before scheduled collection to ensure no service interruption," a spokesperson conveyed to WLWT.
The impending heat wave, which is anticipated to bring air temperatures into the 90s with heat indices surpassing 100 degrees, has been officially recognized with Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday designated as First Alert Weather Days by the FOX19 NOW First Alert Weather team, and Rumpke drivers may collect waste and recycling earlier than usual, "With this change, it is important that trash and recycling be placed curbside the night before scheduled collection to ensure no service interruption," Rumpke corporate communications manager Molly Yeager Broadwater shared in a statement obtained by FOX19.
In addition to the rescheduling, Rumpke is implementing safety measures for their drivers, such as providing additional drinks, ice, and regular supervisor check-ins to monitor driver well-being during the heat event. Molly Yeager, Rumpke Corporate Communications Manager, stressed the importance of placing collection bins out the night before, "It is extremely important next week, that they place it out the night before," she said, while also noting that this should be a standard practice regardless of weather conditions to ensure a smooth collection process, as she told The Enquirer.
