The City of Sacramento recently disclosed statistics regarding its efforts to address the local homelessness issue for the week of June 9 through June 15, per a report on the City’s measures in this ongoing crisis.
According to the Sacramento City Express report, during this period, the City's Incident Management Team (IMT) received 852 calls to its 311 customer service related to unsheltered individuals; the team managed to 'close' 689 of these calls, which means the problems were either resolved or were no longer existent when inspected by City staff, despite the challenges inherent in such complex social issues.
Notably, the City's Department of Community Response directly enrolled 112 individuals into databases designed to match them with shelters and other resources, evidencing a focused approach toward long-term assistance. Moreover, 39 individuals found placement in the City’s Roseville Road campus or at the Outreach and Engagement Center (OEC), signaling progress, however incremental it might be in alleviating distress among the city's most vulnerable populations in real-time.
With housing capacity sometimes fluctuating, as of June 17, there was the availability of one Pallet home and one trailer at the Roseville Road campus along with 15 spaces at the OEC; in addition to this, there was an average of 13 openings across City funded shelters, excepting the Roseville Road campus and the OEC, in another ongoing effort to provide sanctuary for those without.
The tangible aspect of the City's initiative was also visible through waste management measures, wherein a cleanup effort resulted in the removal of 161,000 pounds of trash, as reported, minting a cleanliness that serves to dignify the surroundings for all city residents, regardless of their housing status.
For those seeking more detailed information and insight into the IMT’s activities, the City maintains a comprehensive data dashboard, which allows public tracking of the team's weekly progress from as far back as September 2023 and access to cumulative figures for outreach, compliance, and cleanup operations.
