San Antonians looking to shield their pets from the anxiety-inducing cacophony of Fourth of July fireworks can find sanctuary in a series of Safe Pet Pop-Up events designed to prep furry friends for the holiday's noisy celebrations. According to a recent announcement by the San Antonio Animal Care Services, these pop-ups will provide free registered microchips alongside other safety accessories such as collars, harnesses, and engraved tags, aiming to ensure pets can be swiftly reunited with their owners should fright lead to flight.
With the boisterous revelry of Independence Day upon us, these events become a haven for proactive pet owners, the schedule starts on Tuesday, July 1, with a pop-up hosted in partnership with the San Antonio Park Police Community Operation Resource Education Unit between 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. at West End Park, close to Frank Garrett Multi-Service Center, and continues for two more days at Animal Care Services located at 4710 State Highway 151. Pet owners can walk in on Wednesday, July 2 from 8-10 a.m. or 4-6 p.m., and again on Thursday, July 3 during the same hours, no appointment is needed but remember, all pets must arrive leashed or in a carrier to partake in these services, available exclusively to City of San Antonio residents, as reported by the San Antonio Animal Care Services.
Emphasizing the significance of microchipping, the City of San Antonio mandates it by law as a permanent pet ID measure. San Antonio Animal Care Services Safe Pet Pop-Up events underline this message by not only offering the microchip itself but also ensuring it comes registered, which is a critical step in the identification process. The absence of a registered microchip can severely diminish the chances a lost pet has of being returned home, a statement gleaned from the city's notification.
For pet owners worried about their animals during the holiday, Safe Pet Pop-Ups are here to help. They offer free safety gear and ID tags—along with microchips—to help pets get back home if they get lost. Supplies are limited, so it’s best to act soon.
