In a recent sweep dubbed Operation Consequences, authorities in San Bernardino County have made a substantial impact on local crime, leading to the arrest of 24 suspects and the confiscation of five firearms. The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, in collaboration with multiple law enforcement agencies, conducted a targeted crime suppression operation from June 16 through June 22, as revealed in a statement from the San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner Department.
During the meticulously planned initiative, peace officers served search warrants and contacted individuals associated with gang activity or prohibited from firearm possession, and, in the process, they recovered not just firearms but also suspected methamphetamine. The multi-agency task force carried out operations across varied locations including North H Street, Canterbury Street, and Meadow Street, which bore fruit with 10 felony arrests and 14 misdemeanor arrests. This was part of the ambitious strategy to suppress the rising tide of crime in the region which has seen a spike in homelessness, drug addiction, and theft. On the heels of newly enacted Proposition 36, which builds upon and reforms laws from Proposition 47, officers have been able to secure enhanced sentences for eligible offenders, two of whom were arrested in this operation.
A substantial investment from the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors has granted additional funds specifically dedicated to crime suppression efforts. The San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner Department, led by Sheriff-Coroner Shannon D. Dicus, is casting a wider net with heightened law enforcement services, looking to improve the quality of life for community members. This infusion of resources is vital in backing operations like Consequences, which aim to quell violent crime, destabilize criminal gangs, and staunch the flow of illicit arms in the county.
The roster of agencies mobilized for these operations is comprehensive, including the Sheriff’s Gangs/Narcotics Division, Specialized Enforcement Division, patrol stations, California Highway Patrol, San Bernardino Police Department, San Bernardino County Probation, U.S. Marshals Pacific Southwest Regional Fugitive Task Force, and Department of Homeland Security Investigations the concerted efforts of these teams underscore the gravity and scope of the mission upon which they have embarked, targeting criminals involved with firearms in a multi-pronged offensive. Sheriff Dicus's department has indicated that operations like Consequences will extend over the coming months, indicative of the ongoing commitment to community safety and the rule of law.
