San José Police have made an arrest in connection with a mid-May shooting that took place in an apartment parking lot in San José. The suspect, a 14-year-old juvenile male, allegedly discharged a firearm multiple times at an adult male victim, who was inside a vehicle at the time of the incident. The victim's vehicle was struck by gunfire, but fortunately, he escaped unharmed from the potentially deadly encounter, as reported by the San José Police Department.
The initial investigation by the SJPD has suggested that the shooting was gang-related. Police say the altercation occurred around 4:31 PM on May 14 near Tosca Court and Tosca Way. The juvenile suspect fled the scene before officers arrived, but was promptly identified by the SJPD Gang Investigations Unit Detectives as a gang member residing in the San José area. Several weeks later, the San José Police Department Violent Crimes Enforcement Team located the suspect on June 15, during which the suspect attempted to evade capture by fleeing on foot, and in the process, a firearm was discarded, later found to be stolen from Reno.
The subsequent search of the juvenile's residence unearthed evidence of gang affiliation, leading to charges that include attempted murder and several firearms-related offenses. Following his apprehension, the suspect was booked into the Santa Clara County Juvenile Hall. Police continue their investigation and urge anyone with additional information to contact Detective Garcia of the SJPD Gang Investigations Unit.
