The San José Police Department has made multiple arrests following a spate of violent crimes that terrorized San José businesses and residents over the past months. A series of commercial burglaries, vehicle thefts, assaults, and attempted carjackings perpetrated by a group of juvenile suspects were brought to a halt with the coordinated efforts of the SJPD.
According to a report from the San José Police Department, the crime spree began on December 24, 2024, with a brazen burglary at a business located on Almaden Road. Suspects used a vehicle to ram into the store before stealing various items. In the subsequent months, similar incidents involving vehicles to force entry into businesses were reported across the city.
On March 25, the SJPD responded to two vehicle thefts from a residence and a nearby attempted carjacking that ended with the fleeing suspects threatening to shoot the victim. Using ALPR technology, officers located the stolen vehicles downtown. Still, the suspects evaded arrest, leading to additional confrontations, including the ramming of a patrol vehicle and a standoff where a firearm was brandished at an officer.
In a joint effort with the Santa Clara Police Department, the SJPD investigation expanded to include similar crimes in the neighboring city. The police eventually identified six juvenile males, aged 14 to 16 years, suspected to be at the core of these crimes. Despite their efforts, the suspects intentionally rammed a patrol vehicle, which led to a brief foot chase and two additional arrests.
Last Tuesday, a significant breakthrough occurred, resulting in the apprehension of three juvenile suspects in Milpitas and San José, with the assistance of the SJPD Covert Response Unit. Two adult females associated with the juveniles were also arrested for attempting to discard evidence and other related charges.
A search of the residences affiliated with the suspects yielded various items, including a loaded magazine, ski masks, key FOBs, an OBD reader, several replica firearms, ammunition, and steel chains. The SJPD has called for anyone with information to come forward, providing Detective Hernandez's contact details for any tips that could assist their ongoing investigation.
