The Seattle Police Department released body-worn video footage related to an officer-involved shooting that occurred on May 30 in Belltown. The incident began when patrol officers encountered a man allegedly dealing drugs near 2nd Avenue and Battery Street at approximately 12:30 p.m., which led to a foot pursuit after the suspect fled.
During the chase, the suspect is reported to have drawn a handgun, prompting Officer Patrick Satterwhite, a seven-year SPD veteran, to discharge his weapon. Thankfully, no one was hit by gunfire, and the suspect was apprehended shortly afterward. The released video, which contains graphic content, has been shared by SPD "in the interest of transparency," showing the moments leading up to the shooting at the corner of 3rd Avenue and Wall Street. Officer Satterwhite has been placed on administrative leave, a standard procedure in these circumstances.
After the incident, Seattle Fire Department personnel evaluated the suspect for reported chest pains before he was cleared to be booked into King County Jail. A gun was recovered at the scene by the police. The SPD's Force Investigation Team (FIT) is conducting an active and ongoing investigation to assess the use of force during the event. The Office of Police Accountability and the Office of Inspector General were also present on the scene, signaling a multi-layered scrutiny of the incident.
