Bellevue Borough streets saw a heightened police presence Saturday night as the West Hills DUI Task Force and Pennsylvania State Police set up a sobriety checkpoint along Route 65. According to WPXI, the operation ran from 10:45 p.m. to 2:45 a.m., screening about 1,000 vehicles that traveled through Ohio River Boulevard.
The rigorous checks led to 17 drivers undergoing field sobriety tests, with seven ultimately being arrested for DUI. This police operation not only focused on alcohol impairment but also on other infractions. One individual faced arrest on drug-related charges, while seventeen others were cited for various vehicle violations, such as driving without a license or brandishing an expired one.
Driving with a suspended license proved to be a notable issue during the checkpoint, as ten drivers were taken off the road for this infringement. WTAE highlighted the significance of the collaborative effort, noting that officers from at least 14 different communities participated in the operation.
