Residents of Sevierville and nightly commuters need to plan ahead for next week, as a significant road closure is scheduled to take place on Bruce Street. The Sevierville Police Department announced the street will be closed to all traffic between Parkway and Forks of the River Parkway from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., starting Monday evening, June 16, through Friday morning, June 20, 2025.
The closure is set to allow for concrete work needed for the removal of the faux railroad tracks on Bruce Street. Crossing Bruce Street, motorists on Court Avenue will be permitted, but they should be prepared for "short term delays," as the police department notes in their advisory. This work marks a step towards rectifying a gesture toward a past, the rails, that no longer align with the pressing demands and aesthetics of the current roads.
The Sevierville community should expect no vehicle access on the affected segment of Bruce Street during these hours. Traffic flow on adjacent roads, while maintained, is likely to be slower than usual. Drivers are advised to seek alternative routes to avoid disruption to their nightly commutes or local travels.
This traffic advisory underscores the ongoing changes in our infrastructure, adapting and reshaping the physical arteries that traverse our towns in pursuit of progress. "The closure is necessary," the police stressed, indicating that the work cannot proceed without these measures. Pending weather conditions, which can always introduce a curveball into the best-laid plans, the project "may be rescheduled or extended due to unfavorable weather conditions," they added. It's a reminder to all that while we strive to improve, we often find our timetables at the mercy of Mother Nature's whims.
