Snellville has approved its Fiscal Year 2026 budget, keeping the property tax millage rate steady at 4 mills for the fourth consecutive year. According to a City of Snellville announcement, to help balance the $40,740,970 budget, officials reinstated a $240 annual sanitation fee, which will appear on upcoming property tax bills.
The budget addresses rising costs in areas such as health coverage, construction materials, and utilities. It includes over $12 million for a new community center at T.W. Briscoe Park, funded through sales tax revenue and grants.
Mayor Barbara Bender stated that the budget maintains city services and supports future development without increasing the millage rate. Key projects include the continued development of The Grove at Towne Center and planned intersection improvements at North Road and Wisteria Drive to improve traffic flow and pedestrian safety.
Capital investments outlined in the budget include a new stormwater department truck, six police vehicles, a right-of-way mower, $1 million for road paving, and $1.4 million for stormwater infrastructure. A 3 percent employee pay raise is also included to support staff retention and recruitment, particularly for the Parks and Recreation Department ahead of the new community center’s opening.
The city also adopted House Bill 581, which introduces a floating homestead exemption. This measure is designed to moderate property tax increases by tying them more closely to inflation rather than market fluctuations.
