Recently, the St. Bernard Sheriff's Office Marine Division participated in a tactical operators course focused on enhancing their skills for managing high-risk situations on the water. The training took place last week from Monday to Friday on Lake Pontchartrain and was conducted in collaboration with the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA), the U.S. Coast Guard, and the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, according to the St. Bernard Sheriff's Office.

Designed to amplify the response capabilities of law enforcement officers in both emergency and high-risk aquatic scenarios, the course included deputies from the SBSO, Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries agents, and members of the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff's Office. The officers' efforts concentrated on pursuit techniques, vessel-to-vessel contact maneuvers, and the kind of coordinated response strategies essential for maintaining safety on the waves.

The program facilitates collaboration among agencies and reflects the coordinated efforts of law enforcement organizations focused on public safety. "Training focused on pursuit techniques, vessel-to-vessel contact maneuvers, and coordinated response strategies – skills that are critical for ensuring public safety on the water," the sheriff's office detailed in a statement.

Specialized training is conducted to support public safety. By acquiring these tactical skills, participants are prepared to respond to diverse situations in marine environments. Their training includes law enforcement and search and rescue operations across Louisiana’s waterways.
