The City of St. Louis is preparing to honor Juneteenth with a shift in its normal services. The St. Louis Refuse Division announced a tweak in the roll cart trash collection schedule to accommodate the Juneteenth observance on June 19. As a result, some residents will need to make a note of altered dates for their waste disposal routines.
According to the City of St. Louis announcement, those with Monday solid waste and Thursday recycling pick-ups should set their roll carts out on Monday, June 16, for trash, and on Wednesday, June 18, for recyclables. Meanwhile, where residents usually have Tuesday solid waste and Friday recycling services will receive trash collection on Tuesday, June 17, and recyclables will be collected the day after Juneteenth, Friday, June 20.
The brief pause in regular scheduling is an acknowledgment of Juneteenth — a day marking the emancipation of those who had been enslaved in the United States, which has been recognized as a federal holiday since 2021. The city's decision to adapt its services is a reflection of its commitment to honor this significant day in American history.
