In an incident that might have residents second-guessing the security of their mail, the Rocklin Police Department reports the arrest of two individuals on charges of mail theft. Caught in the act of breaking into an apartment complex's cluster mailboxes, Analilia Acosta and Francisco Aguilar, both from Stockton, were detained after officers were alerted by a CCTV alarm monitoring company.
Upon their hasty departure from the scene, police were able to apprehend the suspects, finding more than just stolen letters and parcels in their possession. According to the post on the Rocklin Police Department's Facebook page, a garbage bag filled with unopened mail, several not yet activated debit and credit cards, drugs, and a USPS master key constituted the evidence of a clear intent to pilfer personal information and perhaps funds from the unsuspecting residents.
In the wake of this crime, the Rocklin Police Department has issued an advisory, reminding people to regularly check their mailboxes. This arrest follows a public service announcement made by the department just two days prior, addressing the rising issue of mailbox break-ins. The timely response of law enforcement in this case suggests a growing vigilance against such property crimes, though the discovery of a USPS master key among the contraband indicates a deeper vulnerability in the postal system.
