
On a recent June evening, the Stockton community was disrupted by a dramatic fire that blazed through the 400 block of East Main Street, necessitating a major response from both the fire and police departments.
The cause of the fire was not immediately clear, however, investigators from the Stockton Police Department and Stockton Fire Department's arson unit soon found reason to believe that foul play was involved. Through collaboration and determined investigative work, a suspect emerged: 37-year-old Stockton resident, Lucio Carrillo. On June 19, after nearly two weeks of investigation, Carrillo was located within the city and, arrested without resistance by patrol officers according to a statement from the Stockton Police Department's social media.
The charges against Carrillo are serious, including arson and numerous unrelated outstanding warrants. He has since been booked into the San Joaquin County Jail while the city tries to recover from the substantial damage inflicted by the fire. The incident has been a stark reminder of how a single act of destruction can disrupt and endanger lives and livelihoods in the span of a single night.
