In what's shaping up to be a bustling summer in downtown Raleigh, the North Carolina Museum of Art is transplanting its outdoor movie magic into the urban core, with a little help from the freshness of Moore Square. Setting the scene for some cinematic al fresco evenings, locals can expect a spread of family-friendly flicks served monthly amid the skyscrapers.
Moviegoers are invited to enjoy outdoor screenings starting with "Piece by Piece" on Friday. Pre-movie activities like crafts and games begin at 6 p.m., while food trucks will be available starting at 5:30 p.m.
According to an announcement on the City of Raleigh website, the silver screen under the stars is a not-to-be-missed zero-cost treat for all age groups—the kind of event that stitches communities closer, one shared laugh and gasp at a time. The lineup reads like the who's who of recent pop culture, with "The Wild Robot" set for July 18, followed by the stage-adaptation-turned-screen-hit “Wicked” on August 22, and for those who like their entertainment fast and furry, “Sonic the Hedgehog 3” speed-dashes onto the scene September 26.
The outdoor movies will start at 7:15 p.m. on select Fridays. For updates on food trucks, special guests, and more, follow @raleighparks, @mooresquare, and @ncartmuseum on social media. This event is a collaboration with NCMA and the Downtown Raleigh Alliance.
